<DIV><B>William Carpenter</B> teaches literature at the College of the Atlantic in Maine. His first novel, <I>A Keeper of Sheep</I>, was published by Milkweed Editions in the mid-90s to critical acclaim. He has also written three volumes of poetry which won numerous awards in the US and abroad.</DIV>
