Raoul Whitfield (1896–1945) was a prolific author of hard-boiled fiction who made his name writing for Black Mask magazine. After flying for the army during World War I, he broke into pulp fiction by writing air ace stories, later transitioning into detective fiction, when he created the half-Filipino detective Jo Gar. His best-known novel is Green Ice (1930).
