JOHN FRAYN TURNER was born in 1923 and served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. After an early career in journalism, he joined the Ministry of Defence to work on RAF publicity in London. He made a number of test flights and developed a lasting friendship with Douglas Bader which later led to their collaboration on several books. The publication of John’s first book in 1955, Service Most Silent, marked the start of a long and distinguished career as an author specializing in military history and biography. He died in Cornwall in 2015.
