Frances E. W. Harper was an abolitionist, suffragist, teacher, public speaker, and writer. She had a long and prolific career, publishing her first book of poetry at the age of twenty. When she was sixty-seven, Harper’s widely-praised Iola Leroy was released, placing her among the first Black women with a published novel.
