The residents of Churlstone finally own the Old Red Lion, but keeping their beloved pub running is proving harder than anyone expected. So far, the fundraising committee have been running things themselves, but it’s clear they need someone new to take charge.

Enter Clara: enthusiastic, energetic and full of ideas. Hattie is convinced she’s exactly what the Old Red Lion needs – even if not everyone agrees. But as Clara begins making changes, some of the locals aren’t impressed. And when questions arise about her past, Hattie starts to wonder how well they really know their new landlady.

Meanwhile, life isn’t entirely straightforward for Hattie either. Her relationship with Greg is going well, but his teenage daughter Suzie isn’t quite as enthusiastic about sharing her dad. And when plans for a village production of Romeo & Juliet get underway, Hattie finds herself juggling pub politics, family tensions and more than the local am-dram.

Then disaster strikes at the Old Red Lion, and suspicion quickly falls on Clara. With gossip spreading through the village and the future of the pub once again uncertain, Hattie must decide whether to trust the woman she fought to appoint or admit she may have made a terrible mistake.
