Blending fantasy, history, and epic adventure, the four-book King of Ys series is a rich and captivating reimagining of one of early Europe’s most mysterious lost kingdoms. In the series’ first book, Roma Mater, the Roman emissary Gratillonius finds himself suddenly thrust into power as the new king of Ys. He must fight to keep his strange new country on its feet while the rest of the Roman Empire begins to crumble around him.

In the second book, Gallicenae, an invasion mounts from afar, but perhaps the greatest threat to the future of Ys lies in the actions of its trio of jealous gods, who must be obeyed lest grave consequences descend on the fragile kingdom.

The saga continues with Dahut, in which, sixteen years after Gratillonius first took the throne as the king of Ys, he must contend with his greatest rival, Niall maqq Echach. But perhaps the troubling development is unfolding from within Gratillonius’s own household, where, following the death of one of his nine wives, the gods have named an unsettling replacement: Gratillonius’s own daughter.

And in the series’ grand conclusion, The Dog and the Wolf, the fabled kingdom of Ys has finally fallen. Victim to invading hordes and vengeful gods, the remaining Ysans put their faith in Gratillonius to rebuild their beloved city in the face of ever-present danger.
