From the creator of Tarzan, a classic science fiction adventure about a warrior facing danger on the planet Barsoom to rescue a kidnapped princess.
Tan Hadron of Haster is a soldier of Helium, serving John Carter, Warlord of Mars. Despite his heroism and prowess in battle, he finds himself declared unworthy of love from Sanoma Tora, the spoiled daughter of a nobleman who seeks only wealth and prestige in her suitors. But when she is abducted, her father promises Tan his daughter’s hand for rescuing her.
The villain responsible is Tul Axtar, ruler of Jahar. For years he has been raising an army and developing powerful weapons to overthrow John Carter and conquer Mars. He kidnapped Sanoma to add her to his harem of slave women, using her as little more than a pawn against Carter’s court.
As Tan traverses the Martian landscape towards Jahar, he engages in battle with monstrous creatures and treacherous aliens. He finds an ally in Tavia, a former slave girl turned warrior whose skill and bravery match his own. Joined by other valiant companions, Tan’s fellowship encounters Axtar’s weapon master—insane and consumed with vengeance—who offers them the means to defeat Axtar and rescue Sanoma.
But the woman Tan believes he’s in love with has her own selfish agenda—leading him to realize who he truly cares for and who he’s willing to sacrifice himself to save . . .
