Tightrope

The LAPD has always had its share of strange policemen, but few are quite as captivating as Blue Maguire and Spaceman Kowalski. A refugee from the department’s PR wing, Maguire is a detective with a sense of style totally foreign to his partner, the hard-bitten homicide veteran known as Spaceman. They don’t look like a pair, but together they make a spectacular team.
 
Blue and Spaceman first appear in Bleeding Hearts (1984), in which they chase an escaped lunatic and his psychopathic brother, and they return in Tightrope (1986) to investigate a smuggling conspiracy that stretches back to the Vietnam War.
