Alfred Walter Stewart was a British chemist and part-time novelist. Under the pseudonym of J.J. Connington, he wrote a pioneering work of science fiction, along with seventeen detective novels between 1923 and 1947. He is credited with creating several fictional detectives, including Superintendent Ross and Chief Constable Sir Clinton Driffield.
