James Percy FitzPatrick
Sir James Percy FitzPatrick (1862-1931) was a South African author and politician whose classic children’s book, Jock of the Bushveld (1907) was based on his experiences during the legendary gold rush in the Transvaal region of South Africa. Years later, FitzPatrick entertained his children with stories of his youthful adventures, and was persuaded by his friend Rudyard Kipling to collect them into a book. An immediate bestseller, this story of a beloved Staffordshire bull terrier who grows from the runt of the litter into a brave and loyal trail dog has never been out of print.
